What is PLATON?

PLATON aspires to provide teachers and school communities with a coherent teachers’ training framework which will update their current teaching practices. More particularly, PLATON aims to offer an open and innovative training framework to teachers of primary and secondary education which will focus on:

  • PROMOTING STUDENT-CENTRED TEACHING APPROACHES like the Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) approach so as to better facilitate the teachers in addressing underachievement in basics skills of math, science and literacy as well as improving effectively students’ problem solving skills
  • PROMOTING A HOLISTIC INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH for teaching science in schools based on innovative teaching methods like the ‘Big Ideas of Science’ also fostering collaboration between teachers of different science disciplines
  • SUPPORT THE USE OF ONLINE EDUCATIONAL TOOLS (like online science and math labs, game-based applications, e-tools that facilitate the teaching and learning process) through well-structured educational activities, thus supporting teachers in modernizing their teaching skills and bringing them up to speed with students’ needs and interests
  • SUPPORT THE MEANINGFUL COLLABORATION BETWEEN TEACHERS OF THE SAME SCHOOL by enhancing their current teaching practices, making them more effective and better tailored to the needs of students

 

The PLATON project was designed following the work done on the Big Ideas of Science and Inquiry Learning by project partners during the Go-Lab European project.

About

PLATON is a two-year European project launched on September 2016. It aspires to provide teachers and school communities with a coherent teachers’ training framework which will update their current teaching practices. More particularly, PLATON aims to offer an open and innovative training framework to teachers of primary and secondary education which will focus on:

  • Promoting student-centred teaching approaches;
  • Promoting a holistic interdisciplinary approach;
  • Support the use of online educational tools;
  • Support the meaningful collaboration between teachers of the same school.
